“Ancestral Therapy” was born in 2022 and is a testament of my personal journey of reconnecting to my roots, culture, and ancestry after moving to my pueblo in Mexico and living with my Abuela Eva.
Upon graduating with my Master’s of Science in Counseling Psychology in 2021, I felt this deep calling to go live in Mexico, but as a child of immigrant parents from El Salvador & Mexico, who came to the USA for greater opportunities, I faced so much turmoil in making the move down South.
It took several months before I found the courage to listen to the calling to go back to the motherland, but I feel so fortunate that I did because otherwise I wouldn’t have lived with my Abuela Eva during her last year of life nor would I have rematriated back to to my pueblo located in Lo De Marcos, Nayarit. Living with her during that year- learning about her life as child, understanding the hardships she experienced, identifying the survival mechanisms woven into my lineage, and recognizing how her sacrifices paved the way for me- provided me with a deep sense of appreciation for her and for those who came before me- my ancestors.
Since her passing, I’ve continued to honor her legacy by preaching the importance of connecting to our roots, culture, and ancestry in an effort to be help clients build their identity, form a sense of belonging, strengthen their resiliency, and process intergenerational trauma while also reclaiming intergenerational strengths & medicine.
